AR Program Thriving at St. Cecilia

The AR Program or Accelerated Reading Program is in its third year at St. Cecilia and it continues to grow. For those of you who are not familiar with the program, it is a program that encourages the children to read on their own or with their parents. The program has thousands of comprehensive tests which correspond with books that the children can read. Each student is given a goal based on his or her reading level. At the end of each quarter, the students that meet their goal are rewarded with a party. The first semester of this school year we had 55 of our students meet their goal. This quarter we had 90 students meet their goal. That is an increase of 22%.

Students who meet their goal, gain many benefits. The older students sharpen their reading skills and prepare themselves for the greater reading demands of High School. The program encourages quality parent-child time with the younger children.

Here at St. Cecilia’s we have hundreds of the tests and corresponding books. However, in order to keep the children reading new books, we are always looking for ways to purchase new books and tests.
